The given tables provide information about the amount of potatoes being consumed and produced in several continents across the world in 2006.
Looking in detail, the consumption of potatoes varied to some different degrees. Europe’s consumption was the highest among other regions (96.1 kg per person). Followed by North America with 57.9 kg per person being consumed. Meanwhile, in Asia and Oceania, a person only used a halved amount (25,8 kg measured). The usage of potatoes in South and Central America was nearly similar, 23,6 kg accounted. Furthermore, Africa’s potatoes consumption was the lowest compared to other continents, which was only 14,1 kg each person.
The consumption of potatoes affected its production to certain extent. Asia and Oceania produced the most potatoes (131.2 million tonnes). The second biggest producer was Europe, accounted at 126.3 million tonnes. Following that, 27.7 million tonnes of potatoes were produced in North America. South and Central America and Africa not only consumed the lowest but also produced the least among other regions (15.6 million and 16.4 million respectively).
Overall, it is apparant that Europe’s consumption was largest but stayed at second place after Asia in terms of production. In contrast, the consumption and production of Africa both remained lowest in the time surveyed.
