Overall, Europe had the highest potato consumption, while Africa ranked first in the cultivation of potatoes. Additionally, Africa showed small figures in both sectors in the given year.
Looking first at the amount of potatoes eaten per person, Europeans displayed the dominant place in the table chart with an impressive 96.1 kilograms, followed by North America at 57.9 kilograms potatoes. This figure is more than four times as much as that in Africa, which had the lowest position when compared to others. Moreover, the consumption of potatoes in South and Central America and Asia exhibited similar consumption levels, ranging between 23.6 and 25.8 kilograms per person, respectively.
Moving to the other table chart, Asia was the leading producer with 131.2 million tones, which was slightly surpassing Europe at 126.3 million tones. In contrast, the remaining regions, namely North America, South and Central America and Africa shared surprisingly low figures, with figures ranging from 15.6 to 24.7 million tones.
