The diagrams given compare the amount of wheat consumed and produced in several regions: South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia, in 2010.
On the whole, it can be observed that the consumption of wheat in European countries per person was the highest. Additionally, Asia produced the largest amount of wheat among the five examined regions.
To begin with, South and Central Americans consumed 27.5 kilograms per person, which was slightly lower than that of Asians, standing at 29.3 kilograms. Meanwhile, Europeans consumed about 85 kilograms of wheat per person in 2010, which was relatively higher than North Americans’ consumption (67.4 kg), and was nearly fivefold that of Africans.
Regarding wheat production, Asia had the largest figure of 188.5 million tonnes in the recorded year, which was nearly three times that of North America. Europe’s wheat production was the second largest, standing at 150.6 million tonnes, and was approximately seven times the amount of wheat produced in South and Central American regions. Notably, Africa grew the smallest amount of wheat among all areas, standing at just 18.3 million tonnes.
