The table illustrates the consumption and production of wheat in several regions: South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia in 2010, measured in kg per person and in millions tonnes.
Overall, the largest consumption of wheat measured in kg per person is in Europe, while the lowest figure is in Africa. The highest number of production is in Asia, and the lowest is in Africa again.
To begin with, Europe consumed 85.2 kilograms of wheat per person, which was the significant highest in the table. Meanwhile, the figure for North America was 67.4 kilograms, which was about twice as high as Asia, which recorded 29.3 kilograms per person of wheat, closely followed by South and Central America at 27.5 kilograms.During the same period, at 19.7 kilograms of wheat, Africa consumers had the slight lowest figure.
Regarding wheat production, Asia had the largest amount of 188.5 million tonnes in 2010, which was nearly three times that of North America. By contrast, the lowest figures were recorded in Africa, which was only 18.3 million tonnes. Europe’s wheat production was the second highest, standing at 150.6 million tonnes.
