Paris, with the second oldest railway system from 1900 has 1999 kilometres of route with the second highest number of passengers. Tokyo opened this transportation system in 1927 with 155 kilometres on route and 1927 millions of passengers compared to Washington DC with 126 kilometres on route and only 144 millions of passengers.

Kyoto has established this system in 1981 with only 11 kilomwtres on route and 45 millions of passengers compared to Los Angeles with 28 kilometres on route and 50 millions of passengers.
