The three pie charts compare the percentage of annual school expenditure on five categories in the UK between 1981 and 2001.
It is clear that the proportion of expenditure on teachers salaries was highest in three years. By contrast, insurance had represented the lowest expenditure in each year.
In terms of expenditure, in 1981, teacher salaries accounted for 40% of expenditure, and this figure rose to 50% in 1991, before declining approximately 45% in 2001. Whereas insurance wages increased gradually, starting at 2% in 1981 and reached 8% in 2001.
Expenditure on resources of books was 15% in 1981. Then this proportion increased slightly to 20% in 1991. After the following years, it dropped considerably to 9%. While others’ staff salaries decreased significantly, from 28% in 1981 to 15% in 2001. In contrast, expenditure on furniture and equipment followed an opposite trend, starting at 15% in 1981 and declining slightly to 5% in 1991 before rising again to 23% in 2001.
