The first bar chart compares the percentage of students girls and boys from the age 14 to 16 years old who learn additional language while living in English speaking country in two years, 1984 and 2007, while the other bar chart illustrates the three most languages studied by the students, which is French, German, Spanish.
It is clear that over the years the number of students who studied a foreign language decreased slightly. Regarding the second bar chart, although French was the most popular language to learn, it dropped significantly in 2007. In contrast, the number of students who learn Spanich rose.
In terms of percentage of students who studied a foreign language, girls recorded by far the highest percentages in the two years at nearly 50% in 1984 and 40% in 2007. In addition, the percentage of boys only decreased slightly by 5% between the two years, from 30% to 25%.
Regarding the top three languages, the percentage of students in learning French declined to the half at 50% in 1984 to 25% in 2007, and the percentage of German also dropped nearly by the half to be at the end by 13%. In the other hand, the percentage of learning Spanish double, from approximately 5% to 10%.
