The two maps show how Dalton town transformed between 1815 and 2015.
Overall, the Dalton area experienced substantial development and modernization, with the addition of new facilities such as roads, an industrial zone, and improved transportation infrastructure. A noteworthy change was the significant increase in housing, which resulted in a reduction of green spaces.
On the left-hand side of the river, the area that was once Dalton Forest was cleared to make way for the construction of residential houses. In addition, a hospital was established between the river and the residential neighborhood, along with some newly planted trees by 2015. Furthermore, three large industries were built directly across from the residential district.
Over the span of 200 years, a pedestrian ford was replaced by a new bridge and highway. The bridleway that ran along the River Dal was converted into an airport to enhance transportation. Additionally, roads were widened to improve access to various locations, including a school and a hotel, which replaced the Hall Farm area. Moreover, some trees were removed to create more housing space for residents.
