The two maps given illustrate the alterations in the landscape and the infrastructure of the town of Westley since 1815.
Overall, the infrastucture of the town improved significantly as more commercial and residential areas were added. However, to achieve that, most of the green areas had to be destroyed.
When compared, it is quite evident that the town of Westley was largely modernised in the last two centuries. One of the most crucial improvements was the introduction of the railway and the extension of the road, making more areas accessible to the residents. By introducing a more sophisticated transport system, the town was also able to add more leisure and residential areas instead of the former fields and housing. Some of the new facilities built are a cinema, the West Gate shopping center, a sports centre and a museum, last three located in the former church and inn areas. However, to be able to add these, the local community had to give up the greenery and the natural resources the town had, as the Lenton woods had to be demolished. One building that stayed the same though is the Town Hall with the connecting Market Square.
