The pictre shows the extent to which how Shakefield town has changed from 1995 and now. Overall, the elimination of agricultural land, green space, sport facilities, and seafood market has created space for the introduction of a golf course, tennis course, a new car park, holiday houses, apartment, and yachts during the period. Additionally, remaining areas – residential blocks, hotel and coffee shop – have largely stayed untouched, with only little changes.
In 1995, the area used to boast a leafy environment, with a farmland on the top right corner of the map. To the bottom-left of the farm land was a public park surrounded by the path from 3 sides, with a few trees. There was a hotel on the bottom-left corner of the parkland, near which were sport revenues on the other side of the road. A special path was allocated for the housing area on the top-left part of the zone. On the coastal side of the map, people were able to buy seafood in local market, located below the sports revenues, crossing the road. Just to opposite the fish market was a shop, where they would sell coffee. There was an excellent opportunity for people for fishing, as there were plenty of boats available.
However, there has been some major alterations since then. Farmland was replaced by two new facilities: golf course and tennis course, with some trees planted in the former one. Where people used to do sports is now catering for customers as a restaurant. New vocational homes were built, which resulted int in the disappearance of the public park. Additionally, people now can no longer enjoy seafood in the local fish market, as the area was replaced by apartment blocks. The area has become more residential as well, with the number of houses increasing a lot. In addition, the hotel is now hosting more visitors than before. Now, on the sea, you can not catch fish on the boats anymore, instead you can have a wonderful trip on the yachts. Other alterations include the construction of a new car park on the right-bottom corner of new holiday homes.
