The two pie charts illustrate the global population distribution and the allocation of educational expenditure in the year 2000.
Overall, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for the largest share of the world’s population, while high school education received the highest proportion of educational spending. In contrast, university and further education were allocated the least funding.
In terms of population, over half of the global population (54%) resided in the Asia-Pacific, significantly more than any other region. Europe, Africa, and Latin America & the Caribbean followed with 11%, 10%, and 9%, respectively. North America made up 7%, while the Middle East and North Africa comprised 6%. The remaining 3% lived in other areas.
Regarding education spending, high school received the largest portion, at 33%. Primary and secondary education were also substantial, with 26% each. In contrast, only a small share was spent on higher education, with 8% for university and 7% for further education.
