The graphs gives information about the proportion of pollutants entering a particular part of ocean over 10-year period. Overall, while the contribution of domestic sewage and offshore oil increased, the numbers other categories declined over the period.
In 1997, pollutants from air made up 30% of total pollutants, whereas other main sources, such as domestic marine, domestic sewage, and industrial waste, represented 22%, 18%, and 17%, respectively. Nevertheless, in 2007, pollutants from air and domestic sewage had identical contributions of 29% each. The percentage of marine pollutants decreased by 5% over the given period, whereas the number for industrial waste almost halved.
Other sources of pollution, namely offshore oil, litter and farm waste accounted for almost the same percentage: 5% for the former and 4% for the latter two. However, the number for offshore oil pollutants in 2007 was nearly three times more than in 1997, at 14%, whereas the percentage for the other two sources dropped to 2% for farm waste and litter was completely removed.
