The column graph illustrates the three methods of waste management, including landfill, burning, and dumping at sea in a European nation, measured in million tonnes during a four-year period from 2005 to 2008
Overall, the amount of waste buried in landfill showed a dramatic decrease while other waste treatment methods, which are burning and dumping at sea, remained relatively steady. Notably, landfill remained in the highest position among the three methods, except for the year 2008, when it was surpassed by burning
It is witnessed that landfill began the leading method with 1800 million tonnes in 2005 and experienced the downward trend over the years. In 2006, the landfill usage decreased by 600 compared to the initial year and continued to decline to 900 in 2007. This trend continued to fall to 600 in 2008, which showed a threefold decrease by the end of the period.
In contrast, the two remaining methods of waste management in a European country exhibited the reverse trend compared to the landfill method. In 2005, burning was the least popular method in 2005 with around 500 million tonnes, and this figure continued to increase steadily and reached the peak at 900 to become the most popular method of waste disposal in 2008. Meanwhile, the amount of waste was treated through dumping at sea remained unchanged over the years, falling from 600 in 2005 to over 500 in 2008
