From the accompanying graph, it can be seen that the total of U.K. citizens went up dramatically. The proportion of persons who became British citizens was almost 55 thousand in 1962 and increased to over 120 in 2002.
According to the bar graph, the origins of immigrants from Europe, Africa and Asia to the U.K. incresed steadily except for people from America, Australasia and others. Interestingly, the number of immigrnts from Asia was the highest, it was 49 thousand in 1996 and 58 thousand in 2002 respectively. From Africa it rapid went up from 9 thousand to the surprising 25 thousand. The number of people from Europe rose significant to 27 thousand from 9 thousand.Lastly, the number of immigrants from America, Australasia and other countries was a slight decrease, it was 5 thousand in 1996 and 4 thousand in 2002 respectively.
