The maps illustrate the Porth Harbour’s development from 2000 to the present day.
Overall, it is clear that the Porth Harbour underwent significant improvements with the construction of new roads, recreational facilities and a hotel. The western and the southern parts of Harbour saw the most noticeable changes, including the construction of the second showers & toilets facility, a café, and some shops. Meanwhile, the public beach, two car parks, lifeboat, the first showers & toilets and a passenger ferry area remained unaltered.
In the original layout, there was one dock on the northwest side of Harbour, but in today’s plan second dock was added. The public beach, that existed on the south side, has been changed to private use in today’s plan due to the relocation of a disused castle to a hotel. Additionally, cafés and shops area has been built near the lifeboat.
On the second map, the second shower and toilets building has been added behind the first car park on the southwest side. Meanwhile, The Marine (private yachts) and the fishing boats swapped their places. The passenger ferry terminal and the second public beach remained intact.
