The table and chart present data on where the police’s budget was sourced from and where it was spent in one area in Britain in 2017 and 2018.
Overall, the national government sourced more than half of the police’s budget in both years. In 2017, more money went towards salaries compared to 2018. While technology, on the other hand, took the same percentages in both years.
First, more than half of the police’s support came from the local government, with 175.5 million in 2017, and 177.8 million in 2018. Next is local taxes, which contributed 91.2 million for 2017 and 102.3 million in the year after. Finally, other sources (such as grants) sourced the police budget with 38 million and 35.5 million. In comparison, more support was shown towards the police budget in 2018, with 13.9 million more than in 2017.
Furthermore, the majority of the police’s funding allocation went towards salaries for officers and staff; three-quarters were spent in 2017 and 69% in 2018. Similarly, buildings and transport took 17%. Finally, 8% of the budget went towards technology in 2017, and almost double of it (14%) in 2018.
