DEAR HALA,
It was great to hear from you last week, and I hope you are doing well. I am writing to give you my honest thoughts on the dilemma you mentioned regarding whether to head to college or start looking for a job. If I am completely frank, I strongly believe that entering the workforce right now is the best path for you.
To be honest, I really do not think you would enjoy the college experience. As you know, university courses require endless hours of sitting in lectures, writing extensive research papers, and studying for theoretical exams. Given your energetic personality and your preference for practical, hands-on activities, you would likely find the academic environment incredibly tedious and frustrating.
On the other hand, getting a job right now offers massive benefits. Landing a position will give you immediate financial independence, allowing you to save up for your own place and travel. More importantly, it will give you real-world, practical experience that employers value far more than a textbook degree, allowing you to build your confidence and professional network early on.
Considering your excellent communication skills and your love for working with people, I would suggest looking into roles in the hospitality or retail sectors. A position as a customer service representative, a hotel front desk agent, or even a sales associate would suit you perfectly. These jobs will keep you on your feet, allow you to interact with new people every day, and offer great opportunities for quick promotion.
Whatever you decide, I am always here to support you. Let’s grab a coffee this weekend to chat more about it!
Warm regards,
Rehla
