Overall, the USA experienced a moderate increase in carbon emissions over the period from 1975 to 2005 and remained the dominant carbon emitter. Canada, in contrast, recorded the lowest level of emissions.

Starting with the leading nation, the USA surpassed all other countries throughout the period and showed a moderate increase in carbon emissions, rising from 1.2 million tons in 1975 to 1.6 million in 2005, which was the highest overall. Similarly, China and India witnessed upward trends. While China recorded a considerable increase in its emissions by 2005, India also saw a considerable rise in percentage terms, climbing from only 50,000 tons in 1975 to 300,000 in 2005. However, India experienced a noticeable increase, although its emissions remained far below those of the USA and China.

The other countries, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada demonstrated relatively low emissions data which showed a slight decline over the period. Germany and the United Kingdom declined steadily, while Canada had the lowest carbon emissions in terms of tonnes, compared with the other countries.
