The bar charts illustrate the proportion of house owners and tenants in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. The maximum proportion of owning accommodation was saw in the year of 1918, while in the 2001, households renting accommodation in England and Wales had the highest proportion.
Though after 1918, the proportion of households owing accommodation was in declining nature. The proportion decreased by almost half in the year of 2001 which slightly moved upwards in 2011. By contrast, households rented accommodation in England and Wales, had a significant increase between the year of 1981 and 2011. It was rose by approximately 50% and reached near around 70% in the year of 2001, later had a minor decrease in the year of 2011.
However, in the year of 1971, the proportion of both owing and renting accommodation remained stagnant. In this year, households owing and renting accomodation of both countries reached to 50% and didn’t increase or decrease for the next 10 years.
