Overall, there was a downward trend that can be observed in the proportions of all vehicles, except personal cars. Notably, private vehicles had always been the most preferred option in this country, while the opposite was true for recreational vehicles.
From 1965 to 1985, there was an increase of 15% from 40% to 55% in personal automobiles’ proportion, compared to a slight decline of 5% in public transport. Meanwhile, recreational vehicles recorded a threefold plunge from 15% to 5% during the same period, while lorries and other commercial vehicles remained unchanged at 20%.
By 2005, various significant variations can be witnessed in all categories. With a surge of 5% to reach 60%, private cars had secured its position as the most popular modes of transportation. Moreover, public and recreational vehicles rose modestly, from 20% to 22% and from 5% to 8% between 1985 and 2005, respectively. Ultimately, trucks and unnamed automobiles plunged significantly to finish at 10% at the end of the period.
