The three pie charts illustrate the percentage of four types of vehicles—recreational vehicles, private cars, public transport, and lorries and other vehicles—used in the United Kingdom in the years 1965, 1985, and 2005.
Overall, private cars represented the majority of vehicle usage over the 40-year period from 1965 to 2005. In stark contrast, both recreational vehicles and lorries and other vehicles experienced a significant decline in their usage proportions.
Private cars consistently dominated the transportation sector, showing a considerable increase in their percentage of usage, rising dramatically from 40% in 1965 to 60% in 2005. Meanwhile, the proportion of public transport saw minor fluctuations, moving from 25% in 1965 to 22% in 2005, making it the second most popular mode of transportation in all three years.
Conversely, the use of recreational vehicles experienced a notable decline, decreasing from 15% in 1965 to just 8% by 2005, with a significant drop to 5% in 1985. At the same time, the percentage of lorries and other vehicles usage fell from 20% in 1965 to 10% in 2005.
