Overall, it is evident that the price of bananas underwent a universal fluctuation across nations, albeit to varying degrees, with Japan broadly standing as the most expensive country in terms of banana cost per kilogram. Notably, amidst the market volatility, the US managed to maintain a relatively low and constant pricing for this produce.

Looking first at Japan, banana prices were generally at their highest in this country. In 1994, this figure stood at around $1.90, before surging to reach its all-time peak of nearly $3 per kilogram by 1995, the highest price point across the board. This momentum, however, was short-lived, as it soon fell to its initial figure in 1997. This was followed by a brief period of recovery in 1999, although to no avail, as this commodity continued to drop in market price, hitting a trough of roughly $1.60 in 2001, the only year its lead was overtaken. Nevertheless, another period of resurgence was recorded thereafter, raising the cost of bananas to $2.50 at the end.

Turning to France and Germany, both countries experienced analogous trajectories regarding their banana cost, with the former generally outstripping the latter. Starting out at roughly $1.60 and $1.40, respectively, these figures embarked on similar trends, with both declining in 1998 and 2000 while rebounding in 1999 and 2001, before ending at around a respective $1.55 and $1.20. Interestingly, the cost of bananas in France exceeded that of Japan in 2001, at approximately $1.70, rendering it the most costly in that year. It is also worth mentioning that bananas in France became most affordable in 2003, at just a dollar per kilogram.

As for the USA, this country not only had the lowest-priced bananas for most of the surveyed timeframe, but also witnessed the most stable pricing throughout. Beginning at just south of a dollar per kilogram, this figure then increased and hovered around the $1.10 mark for the first half of the examined period, before completely leveling out at that figure from 1999 onwards.
