In today’s fast-developing world, people have different views on how to gain knowledge about other countries. Some believe that learning through books, the Internet, or television is the most effective method, while others argue that traveling abroad is the best way. I personally trust that traveling can provide rich cultural knowledge.
On the one hand, modern technology allows people to learn about another place conveniently and cheaply. For example, documentaries, online videos, and virtual tours provide enable to explore foreign culture, history, and traditions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, people were able to follow global news and events without leaving their homes. However, this cannot replace the experience of visiting a country in person.
On the other hand, traveling to a foreign country is one of the most efficient approaches to learn about it. By visiting another country, people can observe daily life, interact with local residents, and experience the culture directly. For instance, seeing historical landmarks, attending local festivals, or tasting traditional dishes helps people understand the nation’s identity. Therefore, traveling gives first-hand experiences that are difficult to obtain through other methods.
In my opinion, while technology provides valuable information, traveling abroad offers a more immersive and memorable experience. In short, although it is not strictly necessary, visiting other countries is undoubtedly the best way to understand them fully.
