The issue of the value of long school holidays has become prominent in modern life. While some people argue that shorter holidays are more beneficial, I believe that long school holidays are more valuable than shorter ones. This essay will analyse both views with supporting evidence.
On the one hand, long school holidays help students relax and recover from academic stress. After studying continuously for several months, students often feel exhausted, and an extended break allows them to recharge both mentally and physically. In addition, these holidays give students the opportunity to explore new experiences and develop personal interests. They also encourage students to review their knowledge and enhance their memory. Moreover, parents can take their children travelling, which helps students broaden their horizons.
On the other hand, some people argue in favour of shorter school holidays. They believe that long breaks may interrupt students’ learning routines and reduce their academic performance. If students stay away from their studies for too long, they may forget important concepts and find it difficult to readjust when school resumes. For example, many students feel nervous about exams, especially in competitive education systems, where parents often place pressure on them to succeed. Shorter holidays can help students maintain consistency in their learning.
In conclusion, although shorter school holidays may seem practical, I personally prefer long school holidays. Having two months or more of holidays allows students to rest, grow, and enjoy a more balanced and fulfilling life.
