Rate of exploitation of animals has skyrocketed over the years. Some believe exploitation of animals should be diminished and they deserve similar rights to a human, whereas others believe animals are essential as test subjects or food sources. This essay will argue that the benefits outweighs the ethical issues

On the one hand, most animals are capable of experiencing pain as a human does. Animals, particularly mammals are creatures capable of feeling strong emotions such as depression, curiosity, and grief. The animal bodies of those creatures are almost identical to those of humans. Therefore, some view that animal exploitation is similar to harming a human being.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that benefits of such practices contribute to a better overall diet, and scientific advancement. Animals are the best source of protein and without meat in people’s diet can result in malnutrition and degrading of the body function. Proteins are nutrients essential in the growth of children. Moreover, newly developed medicine needs to be tested for safe use. Animals having similar bodily function is a great option as a subject to be tested by humans. Many medicatal treatments such as vaccines have been created from the usage of animals as lab rats.

In conclusion, I believe the sacrifice of the few would lead to greater good for the long term. Animals are similar to us emotionally and physically. Nevertheless, those are the reasons for animals for being good test subjects and a good diet. However, people should consider a way to minimize the exploitation of animals.
