In recent years, ethical animal handling has become a sensitive subject. While some feel that animals should not be abused and should have the same rights as humans, others say that using animals is necessary to provide human needs such as food and study. This article will explore both ideas and offer my own opinion.

On the one hand, animal rights advocates claim that because animals are sentient beings capable of experiencing pain and suffering, they need to be treated with dignity and compassion. They think that animal exploitation for food, clothing, entertainment, or study is ethically reprehensible and should be prohibited. Many animal rights advocates, for example, highlight the cruel circumstances in factory farms, where animals are frequently held in tight, unclean quarters and subjected to painful surgeries without anesthesia. They further contend that current technology and scientific breakthroughs have offered alternatives to animal testing, including in vitro tests and computer modeling, which may be equally successful while inflicting no damage to animals.

On the other side, people who advocate the use of animals for human purposes claim that it is a vital practice that has contributed to human survival and advancement. They argue that animal research has contributed to many medical achievements, including the creation of vaccinations and therapies for a variety of ailments. For instance, animal testing led to the creation of the polio vaccine, a vaccine that has saved many lives. Furthermore, they claim that animal husbandry is an important source of nourishment for many people throughout the world, supplying necessary proteins and minerals that are difficult to acquire only from plant-based sources.

While the exploitation of animals for frivolous reasons, such as entertainment, should be opposed, I believe that the use of animals for vital purposes, such as medical research and food, may be justified under rigorous ethical rules. It is critical to guarantee that animals are handled with respect and that their suffering is minimized. Regulations, for example, should be in place to guarantee that animals involved in research are housed in comfortable surroundings and that alternative testing methods are employed wherever available. Furthermore, efforts should be made to encourage sustainable and compassionate agricultural techniques that prioritize animal welfare.

In conclusion, the issue concerning animal exploitation is complicated and nuanced. While it is crucial to respect animal rights and avoid unnecessary suffering, it is equally critical to understand the role that animals play in meeting human needs. By using a balanced approach that stresses ethical treatment and humane techniques, we can guarantee that animal usage is both justifiable and compassionate.
