In the contemporary era, the utilization of the Internet, particularly social media applications, has become a ubiquitous and indispensable aspect of modern life. While the advantages of Internet usage are manifold, social media applications have also been identified as a potential source of harm, particularly for younger individuals. Consequently, it can be argued that social media applications exert a detrimental influence on users.
Despite the initial utility of social media applications in the early 2000s, they have since become an advertising tool, particularly in the context of the inviolability of private life and the pressure of the capitalist system to spend money. Many users now dedicate 8-10 hours a day to social media. Furthermore, applications such as TikTok and Instagram expose young people and even children to a multitude of forms of harassment. For instance, even a two-year-old child does not sleep without watching YouTube, young people do not engage in face-to-face communication without WhatsApp messages, and they envy the lives of wealthy and attractive individuals. Furthermore, social media has become a profession and a source of employment for many individuals. It has given rise to new business sectors and has generated a multi-million dollar market. Social media facilitates communication between individuals from diverse geographical locations, and has transformed the ways in which people interact.
In conclusion, the benefits of the Internet are manifold and cannot be overstated. Even if social media does more harm than good, it is necessary to accept that life without the Internet is inconceivable and to pursue a balanced approach.
