Every Parent and guardian wish for the best options for thier kids. Many argue that children should be taught skills at school while others think that a secure future lies in an array of academic subjects. While teaching skills at school is important, I believe that academic learning is better.
On the one hand, many people believe that educators should focus on teaching skills because it is more useful in the real world. Nowadays, skills like creativity, time management and communication are now more valued, this is because most professions value these qualities because it helps to increase efficiency and productivity. Furthermore, these skills also benefits an individual in their everyday life, from general social interactions to personal self goals. For instance, most young adults have taken to their social media to complain about not being taught skills like financial literacy rather that a subject like mathematics in school. However, I think that just learning skills is not enough for future preparations.
On the other hand, many believe that educational institutions prioritizing teaching different subjects give school kids the option to pick a future career. For example, when I was in secondary school, the option of being taught a range of courses helped me narrow down my future career prospects. This approach gives children the option to figure out what subjects they like and and the ones they dislike, this also gives them to opportunity to avoid a career that they hate down the line. I believe that this is the better idea, as it helps students navigate their future profession.
In conclusion, although certain skills helps kids prepare for real life scenarios, teaching them an array of course gives them enough knowledge on different topic to allow them the decision to choose what works for them.
