Unlike what it was in the past, more people today no longer stay in the same profession forever. I believe it is the main force that makes our world develop speedily.
On one hand, some people are forced to switch to another profession because their current industry is no longer promising. Nowadays, the labor market is undergoing a revolutionary transformation. For example, large IT companies worldwide are now laying off huge amount of programmers, who used to be highly sought-after just a few years ago. The emergence of AI has also taken the place of many job vacancies in the traditional sectors such as translation, secretary, and even education.
On the other hand, some other people choose to jump to a different area out of their occupational planning, which makes their working life more spectacular. It is feasible today because start-ups are established every day and are in great need of talented and experienced employees from the existing industries; also, there are plenty of opportunities and resources for people to learn new skills and techniques necessary for new jobs, regardless of their previous academic levels or ages.
In my opinion, there must be more positive effects for the majority of people who have changed their jobs, as long as they try their best to learn and adapt. Their new career brings them better financial rewards and higher social status. Most importantly, this mobility of labor ensures that the most talented and energetic workforce flow to where the employers need the most, which can no doubt propel the innovation and development of society.
Overall, it’s a consequence of our time that people change their jobs. It is also of profound benefit for our world to progress forward.
