Band 6+: Art and music classes should not be mandatory at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is a common belief that art and music lessons are unnecessary and should not be compulsory at school. However, I partly agree that students should participate in these courses, given that they can enhance their creativity and provide a crucial therapy for mental health. Besides, students should have the freedom to choose their courses to ensure the development of their talents suitably.

On one hand, participating in art and music courses brings a significant foundation to students to express and boost their creativity. For instance, enrolling in these courses gives students a chance to display their potential skills and talents through painting and playing instruments. This is specifically advantageous for those who have a passion for art and music to develop and perfect their artistic talent, helping them pursue their career on the right track early. Moreover, for students who have mental health problems such as stress, sleeplessness or depression and so on, drawing, singing or playing instruments can address these hard situations given they were proven by the studies and applied in psychology such as a healing therapy.

On the other hand, students being allowed to select courses in their educational path is the best way for the development of their skills in this case because art and music are subjects that require special meticulousness and talent, which not every student possesses. Therefore, making art and music compulsory at school can have an adverse impact on their mental well-being as well as wasting time. For example, if some students have to sing in class, whereas they do not have a good voice, they can be embarrassed, lose confidence, and so on that will lead to pressure and self-deprecation. Besides, instead of taking time for art and music, which are not their passion and forte, they can focus on other courses, which they really have great ability and aptitude to set up a strong platform for overall development properly.

In conclusion, art and music lessons in school can foster creativity and provide a good healing therapy for mental health. However, schools should have a flexible approach to help students have the freedom of choosing courses, suitable for their skills and talents to properly develop.

The media should be free to publish whatever they want. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is claimed that the media should be free to publish whatever they want. I completely disagree with this view for three main reasons. One major drawback of allowing the media to publish any information they wish is the publication of inappropriate content. The younger generation might follow the media and may receive inappropriate content. […]
