Globalization has rapidly transformed the world by increasing trade, growth economic and cultural exchange. However, some people worried about local traditions and languages disappearing. From my perspective, globalization presents both advantages and disadvantages in affecting cultural identity which is essential with any nations.
In regard of benefits, globalization creates opportunities to preserve and develop local traditions. Due to advances in technology, people can easily access and share their traditions with international friends through social media such as Facebook, Instagram or Tik Tok. For instance, in China, using online platforms to advertise their long standing culture to know more about how its formed and developed. Moreover, globalization encourages cultural exchange, so it will be more popular than disappearing totally. Government can promote development in cultural education as well as tourism.
However, it can also be seen as a threat to cultural identity. While traditional lifestyles and languages are gradually fading away, new things will be advocated by adolescents or young people such as music or food styles. For example, nowadays, English becomes one of the most dominance languages around the globe which causing young people abandon their mother tongue. Not only that, although many traditional food stores have remained, fast food chains stores will replace all of them in near future. That leads to the nation’s cultural identities losing if this cannot be treated significantly and effectively.
In conclusion, globalization can cause cultural identities, but it offers a chance to protect and improve national culture. From my point of view, balance in developing countries and preserving culture is the key to ensuring traditions and languages continue developing.
