Band 5+: In many countries, children are becoming overweight and unhealthy. Some people think that the government has the responsibility to solve this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It’s widely known that children are becoming overweight and unhealthy and most people consider that the government has responsibility to solve this problem. While some individuals blame government and argue about It, I contend that parents are the ones who are liable for their children getting fat. Because they are children’s closest people.

On the one hand, the government really could influence the situation with decreasing fast food restaurants, limiting additions of unhealthy food or telling children about wholesome foods’ impact in schools. If the government does these, children would probably be a little healthier. As we can see, food products are available to everyone in any shop. Every shop has a whole sweet section and children can buy as much as they want.

On the other hand, I personally think that the parents of children struggling from obese have to take action in the first place, because they are the people children get knowledge from. Also children often take their parents as an example. If their parents don’t eat healthy food or they don’t do exercise, obviously, children won’t eat healthy either. Moreover, parents have to look after their children’s health, especially if they are under 10. Even if parents spend most of the time at work, a one month checkup wouldn’t be so hard to do. When a child doesn’t form healthy food habits, they eat anything they want, consequently, it may lead to excess weight.

Moreover, It seems to me that it is a responsibility of parents to teach their children healthy habits. However, the government could affect this situation as well. The least they could do is limiting sweets in supermarkets and encourage children to do sports at school turning sports into a play.

To conclude, while some people think that the government is responsible for children to being overweight, I hold the view that parents has this responsibility in the fist place. They should encourage them to eat healthy, to do sports and look after their health. Besides, It’s totally fine to children to love sweets or unhealthy food, they just need someone to explain how to not carry away with It.
