It is argued that the school programme should include subject of practical matters, such as money management or car maintenance. I strongly agree with this suggestion because it can help pupils to develop skills that will be extremely helpful in their future life.
Firstly, I think it is rather pointless to constantly learn theoretical information, without developing new skills. It is, of course, very important to discover new knowledges and to comprehend the world that we live in, but it is also crucial to acquire practical abilities. For example, if teenager would learn how to apply for work properly they will more likely to find a good job position fast after finishing their studies, than young person who knows everything about chemistry, but nothing about writing resumes.
Secondly, I think that learning how the real world works can help to reduce level of anxiety among youth. Entering independent life must be the hardest period of person’s life, mostly because lack of preparation for dealing with every days problems without help from the ‘grownups’. So knowing how to pay your own taxes and how to keep your house clean can help young people to become more self-assured and focus on building their career or studying.
In conclusion, even though theoretical knowledge it is the top priority for schools in many countries, we, as a society, should also think about how to help young people to prepare for their independent life.
