Band 5+: As technology advances, there is growing debate about the role of algorithms and artificial intelligence in decision-making processes, such as hiring, loan applications, and criminal justice. Some argue that algorithms are more objective and efficient than humans. Others worry about algorithmic bias and the potential for discrimination. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Automated decision-making system refers to a kind of fuction which enables a system to operate on its own and provide it with the capability of making decisions based on logics which has been input into the system. Due to the system running through programmes, the possibility of itself having misjudgements will be very low. Therefore, the algorithms used in hiring, lending and law enforcements could be much more fair. It’d emphasize logics, ensuring protection from human bias, political enforcements and emotional misjudgements.

However, these systems can also affect negatively, lacking human emotions. The complete focus on logics would rather discourage social individuals as everyone will gradually turn into machine-like programmes, losing complete control over their open thinking, creativity and emotional intelligence. As a result, human beings would start to have limits and boundaries in their thinking capacity and the world would soon be full of logical batteries instead of social ones.

Although I believe a proper justice system is necessary in our planet, the brains of humans need to be developed in order to enhance the developments of technology. Complete reliance on technology will leave a pattern of constant loop over the existence of itself. Therefore, I’d personally suggest that despite the large amount of benefits automated decision making systems provide us, the decision of humans through their thorough thinking through communication is much of a better choice for the development of our world.
