Many people now consider owning a car a basic necessity and not a luxury. This mentality has increased car ownership. Everyone goes to work using their car because it is more convenient than asking a colleague to carpool with them. Cars can cause harmful pollution to the environment and human beings. Hence, there are many ways the government should implement prerogative actions to reduce car usage.
First and foremost, the government should improve public transportation in the cities. They should make public transport more efficient and cheaper so that more working adults are encouraged to use them. The government should also provide special passes for daily users as an added advantage for using public transportation.
Additionally, they should organize campaigns to discourage car usage. For instance, they should announce that every once a month, no car should be used to go out. These measures will be uncomfortable at first, but they will allow people to find other ways to travel.
When I was riding my bicycle on a busy road, I felt unsafe because many cars were cutting into my lane. There was one incident where a car driver tried to cut into my lane and almost hit me with his car. To make sure this incident does not happen to anyone else, the government should allot separate lanes for bikers to travel safely. Nowadays, many car drivers drive recklessly and endanger the lives of two-wheeler riders. By having a separate lane, bikers can be assured that they are safe when cycling on the road.
In conclusion, the government should improve public transportation, organize campaigns, and provide a safe road structure to reduce car usage.
