One of the elements which contribute to exacerbating the environment is definitely cars. There are some reasons which can be identified to explain the increase in the use of this means of transport, and several policies can be implemented to address this situation.
With global industrialization and modernization, the demand of travel has been increasing to commute to the workplace or other destinations. The higher people need to travel, the more important role means of transportation play. In addition, cars now become cheaper and more affordable for people to buy. As a result, the number of cars on the road has grown up significantly each year, making our planet more polluted. According to some scientific evidence, pointing out that emissions from cars contain carbon dioxide and other pollutants aggravate the atmosphere. For instance, India is a developed country with a crowded population, the high demand for cars has deteriorated air quality over the past few years, leading to some inhalation diseases
To address this problem, several pragmatic measures can be taken by the government. Firstly, national and local authorities should introduce restrictions on car usage and encourage people to use public transport or electric cars which is better for the environment. Such as Athens in Greece, they have imposed an official ban on cars entering the city on the weekend. In China, the government has allocated resources to upgrade the public transport system to be more suitable for the environment. Secondly, they need to raise taxes on fuel, discouraging citizens to buy.
In conclusion, the reasons behind the growth in car use are well-known, but there are steps which can be implemented effectively to encounter this trend and help protect the environment.
