One of the historical figures I admire most is Marie Curie. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and made significant contributions to medical science. In addition, a pioneering scientist who discovered radioactivity.
Marie’s impact in science is undeniable. She opened new chemical elements, such as: polonium and radium. These discoveries became a revolution in science. It took incredible patience and perseverance. However, in 1902 Maria for the first time determined the atomic mass of radium, definitely proving it is existence as a new element. She worked in difficult conditions, processing tons of uranium ore to isolate radium, and continued her research despite financial difficulties and discrimination. Overtime,the radium has been used as a treatment of cancer , Its radioactive radiation helped to break malignant cells, what has the base of radiation therapy.
Beyond new discoveries,she became
the first female Nobel Prize winner. In 1903, she received the Nobel Prize in Physics (jointly with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel) for her research on radioactivity. In 1911, she won a second Nobel Prize, this time in chemistry, for isolating pure radium.
Marie Curie- that is example of perseverance, intelligence and dedication. She not only changed science but also showed that, despite the difficulties one can achieve success through hard work and a passion for knowledge. Her history continues to encourage scientists, especially woman who aspiring to make a contribution to the world of science.
