It is true that although there are various tools, aiming for everyone to have chances to approach the giant knowledge around the world, a significant number of adults still struggle with reading and writing skills. In my opinion, this problem brings many obvious disadvantages for themselves.
There are many disadvantages to being illiterate. To begin with, a person who cannot read or write is unable to acquire knowledge effectively, from basic information to more complex concepts. This prevents them from developing their full potential and limits their career prospects in the long term. In addition, illiterate individuals are often confined to low-paying jobs, which forces them to live in poor living conditions, as a result, their children are likely to grow up in the same environment, making it difficult for the next generation to escape poverty. For example, people with limited education and income usually cannot afford quality healthcare services, which can worsen their physical condition and overall quality of life.
There are several possible solutions that governments can apply to improve this case. Firstly, they can organize flexible learning programs to encourage adults to join literacy classes. For instance, online classrooms, outdoor classes, or evening lessons can be offered to suit learners frequently busy with their schedules. Secondly, governments should apply creative and practical teaching methods that are suitable for adult learners such as using techniques such as “reading aloud” can make lessons more engaging and easier to understand for those who have not studied for years. This approach not only enhances comprehension but also increases learners’ confidence and motivation.
In conclusion, a large number of mature people are hindered by the lack of literacy skills such as reading and writing, this not only directly affects themselves but also the growth of a particular country. That is the reason why the government should rapidly apply many methods to improve the trend.
