Nowadays there have been an increasing number of people, particularly younger, that consume illegal substances. One of the causes of this problematic is the increase of social media use, which creates false hopes to young people and with an early consumption of drugs could produce an increase of mental illnesses.
The social media apps are taking an important role in our daily basis, especially kids and teenagers, who their conception of what a normal life is altered by those influencers. This false reality could lead in used of drugs to fulfill their expectative of what is life, covering their incomplete life with quicky satisfaction. For instance, ministry of education through a survey in high schools in Bogota, revealed that 60% of students that consume substances, feel that they do not have purpose in life, which is correlated with the 40% that responded that want to have the life of their influencers. In addition, to prevent this is necessary to increase the educational role to made them understand that what your watch in your phone is not the reality.
Abused of drugs should lead to a health disorders, with strong effects if is in an early stage of life, not only physical but also mental. This is due to developing process of the brain, that could be altered for the chemist components of drugs, leading to mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, bipolarity among others. For example, Harvard study about drug addicts, revealed that 78% of them start their consumption before 18 and the same percentage said that after 18 were diagnosed with depression or anxiety. Additionally, to fight those health issues is essential to get phycological attention in young ages.
In conclusion, the abused of drugs in younger parts of population is made for the false expectative of life that social media gave them and with an early consumption the development of teenagers is affected producing mental health issues. In addition, prevention methods such as education or medical treatments could reduce the number of young addicts.
