In the modern world, many countries have faced a problem of teenagers who turned their back on reading books. A major factor contributing to this phenomenon is the modern technologies development. Nevertheless, this issue could be addressed by involving a reading programms to the schools sistem.
With advancement of the modern technologies, teenagers have changed their preferences towards online activities. Although there is a range of ways to read online, the majority of young people are watching series, playing video games or being obsessed with social media. Moreover, many people nowadays are encouraging teenagers not to read books, due to their irrelevance. As a result, the level of reading has descresed dramatically over the past few decades. For example, my city’s library has been empty for 3 years by now. After the virus pandemic in 2022, many people have adapted to the regular usage of the internet. As people gradually started to move back to their previous lifestyle, they completely stopped to visit library. Although administration of the library tried to encourage people to read by adding different facilities, nothing changed.
An effective way to tackle this problem is to employ a reading programms that would be used by students on a daily basis. Students would be teached how to read for their pleasure and would be able to identify their favourite janre. Moreover, including a points sistem in order to motivate teenagers even more is a great idea. The main benefit that students could extract from this method, is that they will adapt to a regular reading. For instance, the government of Kazakhstan has already involved this method to the education sistem. My school was the first in Astana to employ this technique, for 3 month our students are reading books that they prefer for a 60 minutes at least. As a result, many teenagers adopted tendancy to read and our academic level increased likewise.
To conclude, the problem of lack of reading has become a topical in the modern society. That mainy caused by the regular advancement of the modern technologies. However, if governments involve reading programms to the shools sistem, this problem will fade away rapidly.
