In most countries, fossil fuels play as the primary energy source. While some people claim that having been encouraged alternative sources of energy for use should be more prevalent in some countries. In this essay, I would present both views and give my opinion about this issue.
On the one hand, consuming fossil fuels are more common in most countries, especially in developing ones by their advantages. It is noticeable that fossil fuels have a relatively affordable price compared to the citizens’ average income. For example, the percentage of purchasing fossil fuels accounts for 5 to 10% of total citizen’s annual income, reported by BBC news in 2020 . However, these are also a significantly negative factor contributing to global warming since their high carbon emission by the large number of consumptions. According to a report by the UN organisation in 2022, their studies showed that the percentage of consuming those energy accounts for 40% which is at the high levels of polluting the environment and causing global climate change.
On the other hand, alternative sources such as solar, wild, water energy have their positive aspects through their impact on the globe. Not leaving any carbon footprint is a potential one to protect the environment. However, there are the main reasons why they have downturns and become harder for global residents to access. Those energy require a much higher cost in installing, and maintaining systems compared to a lower price of fossil fuels. Moreover, having training workers in installing and maintaining those systems is limited since these sources of energy have recently emerged and training programs in this field are not prevalent nowadays.
In conclusion, I believe the benefits of fossil fuels outweigh those of alternative energy. We should encourage using fossil fuels because they are an economical choice of the majority of global residents.
