People hold different views on whether protection of the environment is the duty of the government or society.I personally believe that government intervention is more influential than individual’s impact, but individual’s behavior should not be underestimated.
On the one hand, many people claim that accountability for an eco-friendly world mostly depends on society itself. The world has core principles, the violation of which may cause global issues such as movements, problems with trade and even political conflicts.Hence, even though government provides sustainability, people often face no limitations on their daily activities, as restricting them may violate freedom and basic human rights. For instance, energy consumption per household cannot be restricted since people have the right to purchase the amount of necessity depending on their financial conditions. This often leads to overuse of natural resources. Therefore, people should practice eco-friendly behavior and care more about nature.
On the other hand, other people, including myself, believe that individuals cannot provide maintain sustainable green lifestyle without government interference.Although government may not directly influence human behavior, in fact its way of influence may be indirect, for example, affecting individual’s preferences and promoting green lifestyle. For instance, by providing adequate training to enhance the level of eco-literacy, the world may accomplish ecological welfare. In addition, those in power may introduce regulations that force society to function according to eco-friendly ideologies.
In conclusion, although it is convincing that individuals have the ability to act without government intervention that shows their significant role in environmentally friendly world, the government’s impact on nature is stronger as it possesses both power and financial resources.
