People have differing views about whether or not governments should improve public health. Although I accept that it is the governments’ responsibility to make sure that people have health care coverage, I disagree with the idea that those programs should be fully supported by the state.
I believe that governments should bear full responsibility for providing good healthcare services for people. Affordable medicine and medical treatments will help low-income individuals eradicate some diseases, especially serious diseases, such as cancers, heart diseases or other chronic diseases without constantly worrying about the cost. If governments are able to provide a well-organised healthcare system, people will take care of themselves appropriately. It means that people will easily have advanced treatments immediately when serious illnesses come. People will not have fear of illnesses and this will lead to a better quality of life.
On the other hand, it is true that it needs proper funding to provide people with medical help and I believe that governments will not be able to guarantee this. Medicines and innovative methods of treatments are extremely expensive. If governments subsidise all the expenses, it will affect the economy. Rapidly rising health care spending brings some financial problems. For example, the US national health care expenditure is estimated to grow from USD 3 trillion in 2019 to USD 5 trillion this year. This spending crowds out other important investments, such as improvements in education, infrastructure and technology.
In conclusion, medical expenses should be partially covered by the state in order to both have a healthy population and maintain the economic stability.
