With the fast development of technology, education has changed dramatically. With academic materials becoming available online, some people claim that college libraries are not needed anymore, but others disagree with this viewpoint.
Those who advocate the use of digital tools stress convenience and accessibility. The students can get e-books, journals, and scientific papers immediately via computers and smartphones. What is more, online sources update the materials often, making sure that the student obtains the most recent information. In addition, digital sources help avoid dealing with bulky books and save time and effort.
On the other hand, college libraries have a number of advantages that make them irreplaceable. They are a good place where one can work without being distracted by the surrounding environment. Besides, some reference materials are difficult to find or too expensive online. Librarians also help the students find reliable sources and develop research skills.
To sum up, it is my opinion that both sources should be used together. While digital means help improve access and efficiency, traditional libraries allow for concentration and better education.
