It is sometimes argued that good products will sell themselves if they are good or meet customers’ demands, which means there is no need for advertising campaigns. While good products will attract customers, in my opinion, advertising is still a valuable tool for businesses.
On the one hand, promotion may be ineffective due to some reasons. Firstly, with the internet development, buyers can easily search for the products that best fit their needs. For example, people can simply find a nearby restaurant on Google by searching keywords for dishes. Therefore, the brands do not need to put effort into advertising products since mass advertising campaigns are unnecessary, costly and ineffective in this case. Secondly, word-of-mouth marketing is enough for the shops to increase sales. When purchasers try and are satisfied with a product whose quality parallels the price, they are willing to recommend it to their families and friends. As a result, the number of customers will increase exponentially without the need for marketing campaigns.
On the other hand, I believe advertisements play an important role in communicating to customers and brand-awareness promotion ability. Firstly, advertising is a crucial means of communication between businesses and consumers. Commercial breaks act as a conduit to instill in consumers about its product’s features: functions, quality, and pricing, informing users of competitive features compared with other rivals. Thus, purchasers do not need to spend a lot of time looking for the products and comparing them with other rivals but promptly finding the most suitable one. Consequently, promotional campaigns may positively impact the possibility of customers to purchase it. Secondly, promotion is critical for building brand awareness and loyalty. The brand will constantly bring out many ubiquitous advertisements, having them permeate into customers’ minds. After a long period of time, buyers will have a subconscious impression and a strong emotional connection with the brand, affecting their choices when searching for the products.
