The true purpose of advertisement is often regarded as a controversial topic. While there is the argument that marketing serves no greater roles besides entertainment due to the belief that the quality of a product or its demand will make it be inevitably purchased, I strongly oppose such an idea, since the promotion of products also plays other pivotal roles besides raising awareness.
Admittedly, promotional campaigns may be unnecessary and irrelevant in certain circumstances. Essential goods such as food, drinks and medicine do not require advertisement in order to be known of. As these products serve the basic needs of human beings, consumers are actively seeking them regardless of any employed advertisements. Moreover, when a product is considered as high quality, rumors and recommendations among users may quickly and widely spread on a large scale; thereby, contributing a lot to the reputation of the brand.
However, this may not apply to innovative, or products which do not belong to the category of basic demand. If no promotional activities are employed, buyers may be unaware of their existence. What is more, in contemporary, developing societies, to survive and generate profit, it is utterly essential for a business to stand out from other businesses on the market. Advertisement, then, can be seen as an effective tool to illustrate exceptional values that other competitors may not possess. Furthermore, advertisement can effectively resonate with people emotionally; by integrating psychological strategies, advertisement may appear as compassionate and attentive to customers’ needs and struggles.
To conclude, even though goods of basic demands and good-quality may ultimately reach the hands of customers due to their nature, advertisements are fundamental for the modern day businesses as a tool to ensure their survivability and generation of income as well as a means of fostering customer relationships.
