Band 6+: In many cities, the crime rate is increasing. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce crime levels?

Crime rates are escalating in several metropolitan areas. While the shift can be attributed to a variety of factors, including poor family conditions and a lack of education, several steps can certainty be taken by governments to address these issues.

One of the primary reasons for the rise in crime rates can be a lack of money. Being born into poor family, individuals often want to support their families and they may think that crime is an easy way to earn money. The second major reason is a lack of education. Without qualifications, it can be difficult to find a job with a valuable salary. As a result, this factor can lead people to engage in criminal behavior. In New York, for instance, in 2020, researchers reported that 76% of crimes were committed by people who did not attend universities or schools.

Rising crime levels, however, can surely be alleviated by implementing a range of different measures. One action to take would be to decrease the number of poor families. By providing a small amount of money each month or ensure them jobs, offenders can provide themselves and their family with their financial needs. Governments can therefore reduce crime level. More importantly, free education should be offered to people without qualifications to prevent crimes in the future. This would help them become more intelligent, and also they may secure a well-paying job. A study in New Dekhli showed that people who have studied at university tend to be more knowledgeable.

In conclusion, granted, although poor family condition and lack of education are the main factors driving the increasing crime rates, there are many effective solutions to address this issue, by providing support, the government can reduce crime rates.
