In recent decades, the average lifespan of people in many countries has increased due to improvements in healthcare and lifestyle. Some people believe this situation will create challenges for the society, while others think that the impact can be managed and give benefit itself. This essay will discuss both view and explain my opinion.
A elderly population may cause numbers of problem for the society. First, the government has to make a policy to spend more money on healthcare and social support for older people. Although many elderly people are officially retired, a significant number of the are still healthy and capable of working to support themself. Howerver, this largely depends on the social culture of different countries. For example, in Japan many retired people continue to work part-time because it will keep then to stay productive and independent rather than relying on their families. And the government provides strong support for the daily needs of older people.
On the other hand, there are several challenges when elderly people continue to working beyond their retirement age. Some company or organization may need to spend more money on healthcare, insurance and special support for elderly workers compared to young employees who are generally more physically capable. Furthermore older staff need more routine medical checkups and this will reduce the productivity within the company.
In conclusion, a longer life brings both challenges and opportunities for the society. Longer lifespans may increase financial pressures on government and company, especially in terms of health and needs. However, with effective planning, older people can actively contributing to their companies. In my own opinion, living longer can be beneficial when the society is well prepared to manage the effects itself.
