In recent years, Western-style clothes have become increasingly common in society at the expense of traditional clothes. This trend has largely been driven by the desire to stay up to date and imitate public figures. Although it offers several advantages, I believe it is an overall negative development because it weakens national identity and damages cultural heritage.
One of the principal reasons behind this phenomenon is that suits and jeans have become increasingly prevalent among youngsters in recent years. This trend has encouraged many adults to wear the same clothing, in order to look impressive and to foster a sense of social belonging. Furthermore, many people try to emulate their idols by imitating everything from the way they talk and walk to the clothes they wear. Consequently, Western fashion provides an easy way for people to show admiration for their idols and to feel accepted by society.
Despite these conveniences, I consider this to be a largely negative development. Excessive reliance on Western styles often results in regarding traditional clothing as old-fashioned, thereby diminishing its cultural significance. In addition, excessive imitation of Western celebrities has been associated with mirroring their voice, actions, and even personalities, particularly when trying to fit in, leading youngsters to adopt foreign values and lifestyles. Although these outfits undoubtedly facilitate a modern appearance, their long-term consequences for culture outweigh their benefits.
In conclusion, the growing popularity of Western fashion is attributable to the urge to look modern and emulate idols. Nevertheless, because it undermines national identity and cultural heritage, I believe it represents a negative development.
