As the development of technologies and materials is rising significantly in the era of 4.0, several countries are concerned that plastic shopping bags are the main source of rubbish, taking responsibility for soil pollution and water pollution. Therefore, an argument about whether plastic bags should be banned has sprung up. I strongly agree with the statement that the use of plastic materials should be prohibited, as there are many reasonable benefits to doing so.
Granted, plastic products have assisted humans a lot in daily life due to their convenience and cheapness. To begin with, people tend to use these bags for fast shopping or whenever they go to a market. Besides paying for the main items, these bags are widely given for free to customers and have more space to contain bigger items compared to cloth bags, which are seen as more valuable and it is not for free in all circumstances. Moreover, when going to a supermarket or a traditional market, people are widely accustomed to not bringing their own bags, due to the convenience culture of giving customers free bags to bring their products home in many countries.
However, the potential reasons to eclipse these long-life material bags’ benefits are their drawbacks. Regarding the problems of the environment, banning the use of plastic bags gives marine creatures and the whole of nature an opportunity to enhance the environment. This way of action may considerably reduce the amount of waste from human beings being thrown into nature, which has led to the extinction of many marine life due to the misunderstanding of natural foods (sea turtles…). Besides, many factories can change their way of production, which is not mainly using plastic chemicals in production, as its harm to the workers and emissions to the environment are significant. Cloth bags are the better choice for these plastic production factories to invest in, due to their higher price in the market and safe production using natural sources.
In conclusion, while I understand why plastic bags are widely used for their significant benefits, the concern of natural problems and production is much more important.
